GlasPort Bio summit appearance featured in AgTech Navigator article

GlasPort Bio CEO Justin McCarthy was recently featured in AgTech Navigator following his appearance alongside Phil Hogan, former EU Commissioner for Agriculture and Trade, at the Animal AgTech Innovation Summit in Amsterdam.

Their wide-ranging discussion, which opened the event, looked at how European agriculture can navigate a fast-changing global landscape - from trade disruption and protectionism to the evolving Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), while still delivering on sustainability and innovation.

“If you look back at the last 10 years of agriculture, a lot of it has been about globalisation. The last two years have probably been more about protectionism,” Justin noted, highlighting how shifting policies are reshaping opportunities for farmers and agri-technology innovators alike.

Talking trade, technology and a greener future

The conversation touched on everything from the ripple effects of US trade policy to Europe’s responsibility to stay flexible and independent in global markets. For GlasPort Bio, it was an opportunity to showcase how science and technology can help agriculture adapt and thrive in the face of uncertainty.

While trade policies evolve and global pressures mount, one constant remains: the need for sustainable food production that reduces environmental impact without compromising productivity. That’s where GlasPort Bio’s innovations come in.

Reducing methane, enhancing sustainability

Methane is one of the most potent greenhouse gases (over 80 times more impactful than CO₂ over a 20-year period) and agriculture is a major source, particularly from manure management and slurry storage.

At GlasPort Bio, our technology directly targets these emissions. By optimising the natural biological processes in stored organic waste, we can:

  • Cut methane emissions by more than 80%
  • Preserve nitrogen, improving fertilizer quality and soil health
  • Help farmers meet sustainability targets while improving operational efficiency

It’s a win for farmers, a win for the environment and a win for food security - all of which are central themes in today’s discussions on the future of agriculture.

Collaboration is key

Events like the Animal AgTech Innovation Summit are about more than presentations and panels. They’re about connecting people - scientists, policymakers, entrepreneurs, and farmers - who share a belief that agriculture can be both profitable and sustainable.

As Phil Hogan put it: “Europe must hold its nerve.”

We couldn’t agree more. By staying open to innovation and trade, and by embracing technologies that make agriculture cleaner and more efficient, Europe and the world can continue to grow while meeting its climate commitments.
