Questions and answers on GasAbate. If you have a query that isn't covered below, please contact us.
What is GasAbate?
GasAbate is a liquid slurry additive developed by GlasPort Bio that significantly reduces methane emissions from stored livestock manure. It also improves nutrient retention, enhances animal welfare, and increases operational efficiency on farms.
How does it reduce methane emissions?
GasAbate suppresses methanogenic microbes in slurry by inducing a temporary dormant state. This prevents the anaerobic breakdown of organic matter during storage, cutting methane emissions by up to 80%.
Is GasAbate’s effect permanent?
No. GasAbate’s action is reversible. Once the additive breaks down, normal microbial activity resumes, allowing the slurry to be used for anaerobic digestion (AD) with high biomethane yield.
How effective is it in reducing emissions?
- Up to 80% methane reduction in stored cattle and pig slurry.
- Nearly 1 tonne of CO₂e reduction per cow per year.
- 1.84 tonnes CO₂e reduction per sow place annually in swine production.
How are emissions monitored?
Our on-farm system has sensors tracking the amount of additive used and the volume of slurry treated. The data from these sensors is sent to our data analysis tool daily, giving us real-time reporting capability on emissions abated.
What are the co-benefits of using GasAbate on farms?
- Enhanced nutrient retention (nitrogen, sulphur, phosphorus).
- Improved air quality and animal welfare.
- Reduced slurry separation and agitation needs.
- Compatible with anaerobic digestion.
- Better phosphorus management in sensitive catchments.
How does GasAbate affect plant growth?
Research shows that GasAbate-treated slurry can increase plant growth by up to 20%, due to improved nutrient retention and reduced ammonification.
Is it safe and easy to apply?
Yes. GasAbate is administered through an automated, cloud-based dosing system that requires no manual input; can be retrofitted to existing tanks; ensures precise, traceable dosing; and notifies GlasPort Bio automatically when stock is low.
Is GasAbate compatible with anaerobic digestion (AD)?
Yes. Unlike acidification, GasAbate preserves the methane potential of slurry, making it an ideal feedstock for AD without reducing biogas yield.
Is it scalable for farms of all sizes?
Yes. The system is designed to be cost-effective and scalable, with flexible configurations to suit small and large operations.
