GlasPort Bio’s GasAbate Technology Achieves Third-Party Assurance from the Carbon Trust

Admin |

GlasPort Bio is proud to announce that its flagship manure management technology, GasAbate, has achieved third-party assurance for its impact on greenhouse gas emissions.

Following a rigorous review of multiple scientific studies, Carbon Trust Assurance, the independent assurance arm of global climate consultancy the Carbon Trust, found that GasAbate can reduce methane emissions from cattle and swine manure by an average of 78% when used correctly. Based on this review, Carbon Trust Assurance issued an independent opinion statement confirming that it found no issues with the outputs of the studies.

To assess the validity of the claim, Carbon Trust Assurance developed a bespoke assessment framework, based on international standards and guidance documents (including the Greenhouse Gas Protocol), the Carbon Trust’s proprietary standards, and previous assessment experience.

Commenting on the third-party assurance, Martin Hockaday, Head of Assurance at the Carbon Trust, said: “We are pleased to see GlasPort Bio achieve this assurance of the emissions reduction potential of its GasAbate technology. Our assessment provides additional confidence in the solution’s methodology to those seeking a credible pathway for reducing methane emissions from stored manure. We expect that technologies like GasAbate will play a key role in helping agriculture transition toward Net Zero.”

Justin McCarthy, CEO of GlasPort Bio, commented: “This is a major milestone for GlasPort Bio and a testament to the dedication and scientific excellence of our team. It represents the culmination of more than seven years of intensive research, peer‑reviewed publications and real‑world validation.”

He continued: “Our decision to pursue third‑party assurance from the Carbon Trust for GasAbate reflects our commitment to delivering solutions that support the decarbonisation of food production.”

GasAbate is already being deployed across dairy and pig farms in Europe, providing a scalable solution that helps agriculture meet its climate targets while equipping farmers with practical, easy‑to‑implement tools.

The reinforcement of GasAbate’s emissions‑reduction capability further strengthens GlasPort Bio’s value proposition, with the technology offering co-benefits such as:

  • Preserving the biomethane potential of slurry during storage, supporting future energy recovery through anaerobic digestion.
  • Reducing malodours, improving air quality in and around intensive production units.
  • Enhancing nutrient retention, enabling farmers to reduce reliance on chemical fertilisers.
  • Minimising the need for agitation, improving safety and reducing operational costs.
